Diisocyanates
Description
Dark amber viscous liquid; [HSDB]
Sources/Uses
This resin is used as a binder in particle board and foundry cores. It is used to make polyurethane elastomers for shoes and automobile bumpers. [HSDB] The polymeric mixture (PMDI) is the main commercial form of diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI); Composition varies by manufacturer; Used (in aerosol form) to make rigid and flexible foam, foundry resin sand binders, and heat insulating material; [Reference #2]
Comments
Occupational asthma reported in paint shop worker; [Malo] A skin and eye irritant; Inhalation may cause wheezing, cough, and reduction of pulmonary function; [CHRIS] Danger of skin and airway sensitization; [MAK] See "Methylene bisphenyl isocyanate." See "DIISOCYANATES."
