Comments
Classified as "practically nontoxic," mancozeb can cause occupational allergic contact dermatitis. [EXTOXNET] The EBCDCs (ethylenebisdithiocarbamates) can cause irritant and allergic contact dermatitis. EBDCs include ferbam, vapam, maneb, mancozeb, zineb, thiram, and ziram. They are also used as rubber accelerators. Ethylene thiourea (ETU), which may contaminate EBCDCs, is carcinogenic and teratogenic in animal experiments. [LaDou, p. 610] ETU is the major metabolite of EBDCs. [Krieger, p. 1690] In high-dose reproductive studies of animals, mancozeb causes testicular damage, fetal losses, and birth defects (hydrocephalus). [Frazier, p. 230-1] Potential for dermal sensitization; [AIHA: WEELs] Decomposes on heating and on contact with acids and moisture--chemicals produced include manganese oxide. [ICSC] See "Ethylene thiourea." See "Manganese" and linked occupational diseases. The TLV for manganese is for elemental and inorganic compounds. Mancozeb is an organic compound containing manganese.
