Exposure of mice and rats to 12.5 ppm for 2 hours causes CNS excitation, eye and respiratory tract irritation, and slowed respiration. "Critical Effects" are irritation; cancer. [ACGIH] Reacts with water to form hydrochloric acid; A skin and eye irritant; In inhalation studies, 5/6 rats die after exposure of 125 ppm for 4 hours; [CHEMINFO] Burns skin, corrosive to eyes, and risk of lung edema after inhalation; [ICSC] In high-dose feeding studies of animals, mild histological changes in the liver occur.
