Sources/Uses
"Simple amine found in the brain. It may be modulator of sympathetic functions. Its derivatives are adrenergic agonists and antagonists. It is also used in chemical industry." [ChemIDplus] Used as a stopping agent in polymerization of styrene-butadiene rubber, for hardening waxes, and to make pressor amines; The sulfate is used as a topical vasoconstrictor; [Merck Index] "As an organic compound, phenylethanolamine is a beta-hydroxylated phenethylamine that is also structurally related to a number of synthetic drugs such as phenylpropanolamine, and the ephedrine family of alkaloids/drugs. In common with these compounds, phenylethanolamine has strong cardiovascular activity and, under the name Apophedrin, has been used as a drug to produce topical vasoconstriction." [Wikipedia]
