Used as the third monomer, the diene, in EPDM (ethylene-propylene diene monomer); EPDM is used to make the elastomer, ethylene-propylene terpolymer; [Hawley]

Comments

Subchronic animal studies (237 ppm for 7 hours/day, 5 days a week for 89 days):kidney and liver lesions, and 10 of 12 rats had testicular atrophy; Human volunteers complain of eye and nose irritation after a 30 minute exposure to either 5.6 ppm (4 subjects) or 11 ppm (2 subjects). [ACGIH] A skin, eye, and respiratory tract irritant; May have liver and kidney effects; [ICSC] Vapor is irritating; If inhaled will cause coughing, headache, and confusion; Will cause reddening of skin if contaminated clothing not removed; [CHRIS]
