It is tested at a concentration of 5% in petrolatum and is a rare sensitizer; Patients may be allergic or photallergic with cross-reaction with other PABA sunscreens; [Marks, p. 218] No photo-toxicity; No sensitization except for slight reactions; [European Commission] High dose feeding studies with rats produced toxicity to testes, epididymis, spleen, and liver; Following four weeks of recovery, effects seemed reversible except for marked epididymal hypospermia in all animals dosed at 1000 mg/kg/day; [HSDB] Not irritating, sensitizing, nor photosensitizing, based on animal and limited human studies; [MSDSonline]
