Description
Tiny circumscribed foci of extravasated blood in the skin; large areas of confluent petechiae are called purpura, ecchymoses, or bruises. [Merck Manual, p.975] Staphlococcus aureus, adenovirus, congenital cytomegalovirus, and rubella virus infections may cause petechial purpuric eruptions. [Cohen, p. 156]
