Metal Thermal Spraying

Process Name
Metal Thermal Spraying
Description
Metal fumes, toxic gases (ozone and nitrogen dioxide), noise, and non-ionizing radiation are hazards of metal thermal spraying, also called "metallizing." Air sampling and the use of positive-pressure, air-supplied respirators are recommended when spraying toxic metals. Protective gloves and coveralls, as well as shower and clothing change facilities are recommended for lead and cadmium spraying operations. Types of metallizing include combustion spraying, thermal arc, plasma, and detonation. The thermal arc and plasma procedures, unlike the other types, generate significant ozone and nitrogen dioxide.
