Comments
After ingestion, symptoms of poisoning include abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Methemoglobinemia may be accompanied by hemolysis, hemoglobinuria, liver injury and renal failure. [Olson, p. 170] Chlorates are strong oxidizing agents--may cause spontaneous combustion or explosions when contact combustible materials; Chlorates are incompatible with ammonium salts, acids, metal powders, sulfur, and combustible materials, especially when finely divided; [Burke, p. 189] Chlorates in HSDB that have caused methemoglobinemia in experimental animals: sodium chlorate, barium chlorate, strontium chlorate, potassium chlorate, and calcium chlorate;
