Related trees with the same allergens are the Cordia gerascanthus in Venezuela and the Cordia mellenii and Cordia platythyrsa BAKER in tropical Africa. The related woods are used mainly for indoor carpentry jobs. Brazilian walnut (Cordia goeldiana) is also used in boat building and exterior construction. [Kanerva, p. 829]

The allergens are Cordiachromes. Allergic contact dermatitis and airborne contact dermatitis have been reported in woodworkers. [Kanerva, p. 829] Imbuia (Brazilian walnut) caused occupational asthma in a furniture manufacturing worker. [Malo]
