Sources/Uses
"Serum glycoprotein produced by activated MACROPHAGES and other mammalian MONONUCLEAR LEUKOCYTES. It has necrotizing activity against tumor cell lines and increases ability to reject tumor transplants. Also known as TNF-alpha, it is only 30% homologous to TNF-beta ( LYMPHOTOXIN), but they share TNF RECEPTORS." [ChemIDplus] "Tumor necrosis factor (TNF, cachexin, or cachectin, and formerly known as tumor necrosis factor-alpha or TNF-α) is a cytokine involved in systemic inflammation and is a member of a group of cytokines that stimulate the acute phase reaction. It is produced chiefly by activated macrophages (M1), although it can be produced by many other cell types as CD4+ lymphocytes, NK cells and neurons. The primary role of TNF is in the regulation of immune cells." [Wikipedia]
