Sources/Uses
Used to produce other mercury compounds, to analyze laboratory chemicals, and to blacken brass; [HSDB] Mercury I nitrate is used as an intermediate for other mercury compounds. In solution with dilute nitric acid, it is used as and indicator (Millons reagent) to detect tyrosine-containing proteins. [Ullmann]
