Used as an insect sterilant and antineoplastic; [Merck Index] Use as a therapeutic agent has largely been replaced by selected nitrogen mustards; Has been widely tested for use as an intermediate for polymeric flame retardants for cotton, but in not likely used commercially in the US for this purpose; An effective insect chemosterilant that has never been marketed due to problems with application to insects, toxicity, and environmental effects; [NTP]

Comments

Single doses of 5 mg/kg administered on days 11 or 12 of gestation produced teratogenic effects in mice; Cytotoxic and genotoxic effects observed in male germ cells of mice and hamsters; [REPROTOX] "It causes skin, gastrointestinal, CNS, and bone marrow damage."
