Nitrogen oxides are toxic to the lung by inhalation; Effects include upper respiratory tract irritation, cough, conjunctivitis, dyspnea, headache, and delayed pulmonary edema; About half of those who survive pulmonary edema develop bronchiolitis obliterans; May form nitric acid (corrosive) on contact with body moisture; Toxicology of nitrogen pentoxide is largely unknown; [Reference #1] See "Nitrogen dioxide."
