Description
White solid; [ICSC] Crystalline solid; [Alfa Aesar MSDS]
Sources/Uses
Used in thermosetting resins and resin modifiers, daylight fluorescent paints to increase their resistance to weathering, baking enamels, and amino resins for coatings (resistant to laundry detergents); Also used as a stabilizer for aqueous formaldehyde solutions and as a chemical intermediate (pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and dyestuffs); [HSDB]
Comments
No evidence of carcinogenicity in mice or rats; Emergency treatment: "Triazine herbicides"; Triazine herbicides have a low level of toxicity to mammals. Toxicity is more likely to be due to other ingredients in the formulation, e.g. the solvents. [HSDB] A mild eye irritant; [ICSC] Not irritating to skin and slightly irritating to eyes of rabbits; Edema in the forestomach was the major toxicity observed in acute oral lethal-dose study; Effects on liver observed (increased enzymes) in repeated dose gavage study of rats; NOAEL for repeated dose toxicity was 20mg/kg/day; Not mutagenic in vivo; NOAELs for reproductive toxicity were 100 mg/kg/day for males (highest dose tested), 4 mg/kg/day for females (lack of nursing activity), and 20 mg/kg/day for offspring (decreased birth index and body weight); No external abnormalities observed in pups; [OECD SIDS: 2,4-Diamino-6-phenyl-1,3,5-triazine - 2001] An irritant; [Alfa Aesar MSDS]
