Spinosyns: Macrocyclic lactones derived from fermentation; More than twenty have been isolated from Saccharopolyspora spinosa (soil bacterium); Used as an insecticide; [Merck Index] Used to control tobacco budworm, cotton bollworm, cotton leafperforator, European corn borer, armyworms, loopers, saltmarsh caterpillar, and thrips; [Reference #1] Spinosad contains about 80% spinosyn A and 20% spinosyn D plus traces of structurally related components; [Krieger, p. 162]
Comments
Spinosad has a half-life of about 2 weeks in soil; it retains insecticidal activity indoors for 9-12 months in stored tobacco or wheat; No human poisoning cases reported; [Krieger, p. 163]
