Sources/Uses
"Solutions of various strengths are used for hair waving and for hair removal. May be used in permanent hair colors, levels up to 0.25%, as a stabilizer against oxidation." [HSDB]
Comments
Ammonium thioglycolate, used for alkaline hair permanents, is difficult to patch test because of its irritating effects. It is a known cause of irritant contact dermatitis in hairdressers and their clients. [Marks, p. 178] Causes contact urticaria; [Kanerva, p. 219]
