Occupational asthma has been documented after exposure to cow dander, goat dander, chickens, pigs, and pig gut (vapor from soaking water). [Malo] Cow dander is the most common cause of occupational contact urticaria, rhinitis, and asthma in Finland. ["Statistical data on occupational contact urticaria" Kanerva L, et al. Contact Dermatitis 1996, 35, 229-233] Other animal-derived allergens documented to cause contact urticaria in farmers, veterinarians, and slaughterhouse workers are not only raw meat, but any animal part (e.g., skin, gut, liver, and blood).
