Occupational asthma was reported in 35% of 20 workers using himic anhydride to manufacture a flame retardant. [Malo] Other workers are exposed manufacturing paints, curing agents, epoxy resins, and plastics. Chemicals linked to asthma include: hexahydrophthlalic, himic, methyltetrahydrophthalic, phthalic, tetrachlorophthalic, and trimellitic anhydrides; also pyromellitic dianhydride; [Malo] Hypersensitivity pneumonitis has been reported in workers exposed during the production of anhydride chemicals.
