Mercury poisoning; Major producing countries of mercury ore include Mexico, Italy, and Spain. The mining and milling of cinnabar (mercury sulfide) in Almaden, Spain was begun by the Romans over 2000 years ago and ceased in 2001. Highest exposures occurred in drilling with values of 2.26 mg/m3 in air, 2194 ug/l in urine and 374 ug/l in blood. Furnace operations and cleaning caused high air concentrations. [Hyperlink]
