Tuck pointing is a job in which old mortar between bricks is removed. The old mortar is replaced to stop moisture from entering the building to prevent structural damage and indoor air problems. Exposures to workers have been measured at at 20-100 times the recommended exposure limit. A case of progressive respiratory failure was reported in a mason after he removed the mortar from three large brick buildings in the summer of 2004. [Hyperlink]
