In animal studies: corrosive to eyes, mild to moderate skin irritant, and not a skin sensitizer; Developmental and reproductive effects observed in rats at doses highly toxic to the mothers; The release of iodine is associated with dystocia, changes in parental thyroid and pituitary, and decreased survival and weights of offspring; Thyroid effects in animal studies include degeneration in 90-day study of dogs and histopathological changes in rat reproductive studies; [Reference #1]
