Used as preservative (targets lime-forming bacteria and fungi) for latex paints, resin emulsions, building adhesives, dispersed colors, pigment slurries, and ready-to-mix joint cements; [Reference #1]
Comments
Corrosive to skin and eyes of rabbits; Not a skin sensitizer in guinea pigs; Causes decreased activity, corneal opacity, and lung erythema in inhalation lethal-concentration study of rats at the two highest doses tested; A 90-day dermal toxicity study of rats produced a systemic LOAEL of 1,500 mg/kg/day (increased adrenal weights) and a dermal LOAEL of 150 mg/kg/day; No evidence of developmental toxicity in oral study of rats; Not likely to present a mutagenicity hazard with normal use; [Reference #1]
